8th Jan - Drumming Sessions at Activities 115, Kingsbridge

I am delighted to be returning to Activities 115 in Kingsbride to run these sessions for adults with learning disabilities.

Throughout the sessions we will be learning world rhythms and exploring a variety of different drums and techniques.

The sessions include rhythm games and are lots of fun and accessible to everyone - you don't need to have ever drummed before to join in.

Drumming is brilliant for helping to improve coordination and memory, learning new skills, improving wellbeing, boosting confidence, exploring creativity and having lots of fun in a relaxed envionment.

1st Feb - Djembe Drumming Workshop, Bridport Youth and Community Centre

The last 2 sessions at the Bridport Youth and Communuty Centre have been absolutely fantastic and I am really looking forward to returning to play some more uplifting West African Djembe rhythms. Learn technique, polyrhythms and breaks. We'll bring them all together to create one almighty, harmonious sound together. Come along and have a blast. No experience necessary, good times guaranteed. 8th Feb - Intro to Afro-Cuban Rhythms - Pavillions Teignmouth

Experience the irresistible rhythms of Cuba in this dynamic, interactive workshop! Dive into the vibrant world of Cuban drums and percussion and discover your inner latin fire. We’ll be playing a range of instruments including congas, bass drums, clave and cowbells in order to capture the infectious energy of Cuban rhythm. These sessions are so much fun and accessible to all! With no experience necessary, this workshop will have you grooving in no time. All sessions come with access to digital resources and a recording of our final piece. Big beats, Big breaks and lots of laughs.

20th Feb - Djembe Drumming Workshop, Newton Abbot Library

Join James from Drum Devon Experience the Beat of Africa with your family at Newton Abbot Library. All are welcome as we embark on a rhythmical adventure and experience the enchanting world of African drums and percussion. With no experience necessary, you’ll be playing uplifting, infectious rhythms in no time and learn about cultural context and the impact rhythms have on individuals and communities. Join us for an unforgettable experience, embrace the rhythm and be the drummer!

The aim being to bring together all ages of the community in order to foster intergenerational cohesion through a shared, cooperative music making experience. The act of drumming in a group also has a meditative quality to support personal wellbeing.

This event is suitable for ages 8-100, children must be accompanied by an adult.

24th Feb - Paignton Sessions (6 week Course)

Where it all started, this group is the first Drum Devon course and has now been running for more than 5 years. We're a friendly and welcoming bunch. Whether you are an experienced player or completely new to djembe playing, this 6 week course is for you. Each half term we learn a new set of rhythms as well as revisit some of our 'classics'. Learn authentic West African djembe rhythms as well as take the occasional detour to different parts of the world.

Come and lose yourself in rhythm on this 6 week djembe rhythms course at Health Source, Totnes. Book into all 6 sessions or drop in whenever you can.

25th Feb - Teignmouth Sessions - Bishopsteignton (6 week course)

Come and join us at our new venue, Bishopsteignton Community Centre. During this 6 week course you will develop your djembe technique and learn authentic West African djembe rhythms. Each term we explore a new set of rhythms making this course accessible for both experienced and brand new players.
